ASTM B338 Titanium Tube GR5 – High-Performance Heat Exchanger Tubing
LINHUI TITANIUM supplies premium ASTM B338 Titanium Tube GR5 manufactured from aerospace-grade Ti-6Al-4V alloy. Our tubes are processed from solid titanium rods using precision cold pilgrimage techniques, then annealed at 750–850°C to achieve optimal microstructure stability.
Each tube meets ASTM B338 specifications with a minimum tensile strength of 895 MPa and yield strength of 828 MPa. All products undergo 100% NDT inspection and ship with EN 10204 3.1 certification and full heat number traceability. Packaged in export-grade wooden boxes, our ASTM B338 Titanium Tube ensures zero transit damage and immediate installation readiness.
Key Features & Benefits
Superior Mechanical Performance
GR5 titanium tubes deliver a strength-to-weight ratio 40% higher than stainless steel. This allows for thinner wall designs without compromising pressure ratings.
Corrosion Immunity
The self-healing TiO₂ oxide film provides complete resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking. Your equipment operates maintenance-free in seawater and acidic environments.
Extended Service Life
Zero corrosion allowance means the tube maintains full wall thickness throughout its 40+ year operational life. You eliminate costly mid-life replacements.

Manufacturing Process
Step 1: Billet Selection
We start with vacuum arc remelted (VAR) titanium ingots. Triple-melt processing removes interstitial contaminants to <150 ppm total.
Step 2: Hot Extrusion
Billets undergo multi-pass hot extrusion at 950°C. This refines grain structure to ASTM grain size 7-9 for superior ductility.
Step 3: Cold Pilgering
Precision cold working reduces wall thickness while maintaining ±0.05mm tolerance. Surface roughness achieves Ra ≤1.6μm without secondary polishing.
Step 4: Solution Annealing
Tubes are annealed in argon atmosphere at 790°C for stress relief. Controlled cooling preserves the alpha-beta phase balance critical for tube expansion operations.
Quality Inspection
· Dimensional Check: CMM measurement verifies OD, wall, and ovality per ASTM B338 Table X1.1
· Ultrasonic Testing: 100% UT per ASTM E213 detects defects >0.4mm
· Eddy Current Testing: ASTM E571 identifies surface cracks >0.1mm depth
· Hydrostatic Testing: Pressure tested to 1.5x design pressure
· PMI Analysis: X-ray fluorescence confirms alloy chemistry
Applications
Marine Engineering
Our ASTM B338 Titanium Tube serves in shipboard condensers and ballast water treatment systems. The tubes handle 20 m/s seawater velocity without erosion-corrosion.
Chemical Processing
Used in chlor-alkali plants for brine heaters and chlorine gas coolers. Grade 7 variant resists reducing acids like HCl at concentrations up to 10%.
Offshore Oil & Gas
Topside heat exchangers use these tubes for sour gas cooling. Weight savings of 45% versus stainless steel reduce platform loading costs.
Desalination Plants
MSF evaporators operate continuously at 115°C with 70,000 ppm TDS seawater. Zero pitting corrosion after 15+ years of service.
Export Markets
We export 800+ tons annually to:
· North America: USA, Canada (ASME compliance)
· Middle East: UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar (desalination projects)
· Europe: Germany, Norway (NORSOK certified)
· Asia-Pacific: South Korea, Japan, Singapore (power generation)

FAQ
Q: Can GR5 tubes be welded on-site?
A:Yes, using TIG welding with ER Ti-6Al-4V filler. Argon back-purging maintains weld corrosion resistance equivalent to base metal.
Q: What's the maximum operating temperature?
A:Continuous service up to 400°C. Above 315°C, oxidation scaling accelerates but does not compromise structural integrity.
Q: Do you provide sample testing?
A:Free 300mm sample tubes available with MTC documentation. Samples ship within 48 hours.
Q: Minimum order quantity?
A:Stock items: 100 kg. Custom sizes: 500 kg per specification.
Q: How to verify authenticity?
A: Every tube is laser-etched with heat number and grade. PMI testing confirms chemistry matches certified MTC.
